VISION STATEMENT
That the glory of God would be the glory of Atlanta’s youth.
MISSION STATEMENT
The youth group at SPPC exists to glorify God by teaching, worshiping, discipling, and doing all we can do to display the greatness of God in Christ to the youth, so that they will treasure Christ above all other things.
CORE VALUES
- Worship: Meeting together in a Youth group once a week is not our ultimate goal, worship is. Everything we do in Youth group is aimed at the maximization of the worship of Jesus Christ in the heart of the youth. When worship is white hot and soaring in our hearts, we are most satisfied in God. When we are most satisfied in God, God is exalted, lifted high, and made much of in our lives. Therefore, the worship of Jesus is our ultimate aim. (See Philippians 4:4, 1 Cor. 10:31, Psalm 16:11)
- Biblical Study: But, although worship is our ultimate goal, we believe the Bible teaches that God is not always pleased when someone worships Him. We believe this because God says that He is only near to those who call upon Him in truth (Psalm 145:18) Therefore we desire to worship God as the Bible describes Him, and we want to come to conclusions about everything based on what the Bible says, not what we may think or what we want to be true, no matter what the cost to us.
- Wartime Lifestyle: We also recognize that our desire to be thoroughly Biblical will be met with warfare from the enemy. We are living in a time where there are immense and restless spiritual adversaries waging war against us (Ephesians 6:12). Knowing this, how can we sit back and desire to be comfortable? Spiritual warfare is not an option in our lives as believers; either we fight for our faith (Romans 8:12-13), or we lose our faith (Matthew 24:13).
- Small Group Discipleship: One of the ways we fight for our faith is in community. We aspire to cultivate life on life discipleship & accountability groups in an effort to encourage the youth to apply Biblical truth into every area of their lives. By doing this we seek to create an environment where we “come alongside one another for our joy” (2 Cor. 1:24) to grow in fellowship, community, and character; all for the purpose of becoming more like and getting closer to Jesus.
- Missions: We believe that we are missionaries wherever we go in this life, and we desire as many people as possible to experience Christ as the soul-satisfying God He is. Therefore we strive to create an environment where the youth can easily bring their friends, for the purpose of sharing the gospel in as many ways as possible. (1 Corinthians 9:18-22)
- The Timothy Factor: All of these Core Values may seem extreme, intense, or too advanced for young adolescents, but we take Paul’s word to Timothy to heart: “Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourselves an example of those who believe.” (1 Timothy 4:12) Because of this, we aim to get into the hearts and minds of the youth, and show them that they are at the perfect age to live a godly life.
